Toronto & the GTA

You are not short of agencies. You are short of attention.

Toronto has more studios per block than Ottawa has in total. What is harder to buy there is a small build that someone senior actually works on.

Why a Toronto business would call Ottawa

The honest version

There is no shortage of good agencies in Toronto, and pretending otherwise would be the first dishonest sentence on this website. So the case for calling us is narrow and specific, and if it does not describe you, hire someone on Bloor Street with our blessing.

The case is this. A small-to-mid build — a real website, an internal tool, an integration between two systems that will not talk — is a small project for a large agency. Small projects at large agencies get sold by a senior person and delivered by whoever is free, because the economics require it. The overhead of a downtown office, a new-business team and a project manager between you and the work all has to be paid for by something, and on a project of that size it is paid for by attention.

We are set up for exactly that size of project, and the person on your discovery call is the person building it. That is not a moral claim, it is a structural one — a studio this size cannot hand your project to a bench, because there is no bench.

The practical differences are small and worth naming. Same time zone, same province, same rules — AODA accessibility obligations, Ontario consumer and privacy expectations, HST on one line. Four hours by car and slightly less by train if a room is genuinely needed. And no assumption that being in the room is what makes a project go well, because most of the projects that go badly had plenty of meetings.

What gets asked for first

What Toronto businesses actually bring us

A rebuild of something that was overbuilt

A site that was scoped for a company three times the size, is slow, and needs a developer to change a phone number. Usually the fix is smaller than the original, not bigger.

The internal tool nobody will quote for

The operations spreadsheet that runs the business and terrifies everyone. Too small to interest a large firm, too important to leave alone.

Two systems that will not talk

The CRM and the accounting package, or the booking tool and the inventory. An integration is usually a fraction of the custom build people assume they need.

A second opinion on a quote

You have a proposal and a number and no way to judge either. We will read it and tell you what we would do, including when the answer is that the quote is fair.

What is in every build

The floor, unchanged by distance

Accessible to WCAG 2.2 AA, which is also how Ontario's AODA requirements are met

Fast on a phone on a subway connection, measured rather than assumed

Local search set up for the neighbourhoods and municipalities you actually serve

Every enquiry landing in one place, from the form, the profile or the phone

A written scope before anyone commits, which is yours whether or not you hire us

Owned by you outright — domain, hosting, code, analytics

Who this tends to be

The Toronto businesses this fits

How it goes

Remote by default, in a room when it earns the trip

A discovery call, a written scope you keep whether or not you hire us, a build with something to look at early, and a launch you are walked through. None of that improves by being done in person, and all of it is worse when it is spread across four meetings that could have been a document.

Where a room genuinely helps — a first conversation with several stakeholders, a workshop on a process nobody can describe in a call — Toronto is a train ride, and we make it.
